Black Couple with Tablet

Tired of your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system underperforming, requiring frequent repairs, or producing inadequate airflow in your Tinley Park home? Stop putting up with an inefficient HVAC system and invest in a newer, high-efficient model instead.

A newer model could even help you cut down your cooling costs by 40 percent, according to ENERGY STAR®.

Our Doornbos professionals can help improve your indoor comfort by addressing all of your heating and cooling concerns. If you know the HVAC system in your Illinois home is near the end of its service life or you want more energy efficiency, upgrading your equipment is the perfect solution.

What to Consider When Upgrading Your HVAC Equipment

When you’re thinking about replacing your HVAC equipment, you’re probably considering everything from the cost of the investment to which new model or make you should choose. While these are important to consider, you should also keep in mind:

  • Efficiency of the new system: When you’re replacing your outdated HVAC system, be sure the new system is more efficient. An energy-efficient system will provide benefits like reduced heating and cooling costs, less energy loss, and improved airflow.
  • Size of your home: If you remodeled your home by finishing your basement or adding an extra room, it’s important to include this new space in the calculations when you’re replacing your HVAC system. You want your new system to cover the entire square footage of your home for adequate heating and cooling.
  • Indoor air quality (IAQ): A new system can improve your indoor air quality, but if you want to add an indoor air quality product to your home for additional support, this is a great time to do so. At Doornbos, we offer a wide array of products, including air scrubbers, electric air cleaners, ultraviolet (UV) air purifiers, whole-home dehumidifiers, and whole-home humidifiers. We can simultaneously provide installation for both your new HVAC system and indoor air quality product.
  • Professional installation: Whether you’re ready for installation of your new HVAC system as soon as possible or have questions about heating and cooling equipment, our experts are here to help. We can answer all of your questions and help you make an informed decision. Just give us a call.

High-Efficiency vs. Low-Efficiency HVAC Systems

Opting for a high-efficiency HVAC system helps you get the most out of your system. The newer systems of today are designed to provide much more energy efficiency than the older HVAC models.

If you’re looking for the most energy-efficient HVAC system, choose a system with a higher seasonal energy efficiency ratio, or SEER, rating. For an HVAC system to be considered energy efficient, it must have a minimum SEER rating of 14.5. Any rating above this is considered efficient, but the higher the SEER rating, the more energy efficient the system is.

Low-efficiency HVAC systems typically have higher operating costs, use more energy, and are likely powered by a blower motor with just one speed. High-efficiency systems are far more impressive: they use less energy to operate, lower your energy expenses, and have variable motor speeds.

What Are Variable Motor Speeds?

There are single-stage, two-stage, and variable-speed systems. The stage refers to the type of compressor the system has.

While single-stage systems work with one speed only (high), two-stage systems have two operating levels: high and low. The higher level is best when the outdoor temperature is high, and the lower level is ideal as a default so your system won’t overwork itself when it doesn’t need to.

Variable-speed systems are the most efficient, having several speeds, and automatically run at the needed speed to reach the temperature set on your thermostat so you always feel comfortable.

Do I Need a Full HVAC Replacement?

If you’re thinking about replacing only your air conditioning equipment instead of the entire HVAC system, opting for a full HVAC replacement is best. While you may be tempted to replace only the equipment you need now, you’ll have to upgrade your heating system at some point anyway.

You need compatible heating and cooling equipment that complement one another. If you end up with systems that don’t match, you risk your system operating improperly. Not to mention, mixing new equipment with older equipment can prevent the system from performing well and even reduce its efficiency.
